Iceland - February School Vacation, 2005

Everyone goes to Iceland in the winter, right? Well, the travel deal hunter was at it again in February! I've been on the Icelandic Airways travel deal email list for a few years and had actually used them to take a trip over to Sweden before and it was a great trip! So when I saw a 4 day package deal for hotel and airfare just $400 I couldn't pass it up! My older daughter Kerry is just like her father when it comes to travel. She was so excited to go along with me!

Believe it or not Iceland was warmer in February than Boston was! A dark and kind of murky Reykjavik awaited us which didn't seem too much more exciting than a small coastal Scandinavian city (which it is). The most fascinating things in Iceland are found when you venture out of the city. It is simply an amazingly beautiful place. As good as going to Alaska, but closer for us, just a 4.5 hour flight. A highly recommended quick getaway. I've already decided to go back for more in the future!

This is the continental divide between North America and Europe. The rock on the left is the edge of the North American continental shelf and on the right, Europe. So you can literally walk from North America to Europe!
